Cabrillo College MESA Center Tutor


UCSC students who have completed at least one Cal Teach internship are encouraged to apply to serve as tutors in the Mathematics, Engineering, and Science (MESA) Study Center at nearby Cabrillo College. The MESA Center serves about 400 students who are enrolled in STEM coursework each semester. In addition to tutoring, you will act as a peer mentor and peer tutor, getting to know the students and informally advising them about aspects of university level work, their personal career paths, pertinent aspects of the teaching profession. This position is intended for Cal Teach students to build connections between prospective science and math teachers at UCSC and Cabrillo College.

Subjects: math, chemistry, physics, or computer science
Dates: winter and spring quarters 2015
Hours: 10-12 hours/week (or split between two students for a total of 10-12 hours/week)

during MESA Center hours, M-Th, 8 am - 8 pm, F 9-4, Sa 11-6
Pay rate: $13.23-$17.79/hour

Preferred qualifications: successful college-level coursework in one or more of the following subjects: math, chemistry, physics, computer science; GPA of 3.0 or above; junior or senior status; outstanding performance in Cal Teach internship(s)
