CaT1 Internship

Cal Teach I (CaT1) is the introductory academic-year internship offered by UCSC’s Cal Teach program. CaT1 interns must be available for 2-3 hours/week in a middle or high school classroom throughout the 10-week UCSC quarter and one seminar meeting each week. Fingerprinting, TB status documentation, and scheduling the internship should be completed in advance of the internship quarter. See below for the application and application instructions.

Cal Teach Seminar

To participate in a CaT1 internship and enroll in the seminar, you must apply and be accepted to the program. You may apply at any time, however CaT1 is offered only in fall and winter quarters. To receive full consideration, apply by early May for fall CaT1 and by mid-November for winter CaT1. See the schedule for current details. We discourage students from participating in Cal Teach during their first quarter on campus; therefore, space is held for freshman and transfer students in winter quarter.

When available by private donation, successful CaT1 interns who have financial need (as determined by the UCSC Financial Aid office) may be eligible to receive a small scholarship after completing all CaT1 requirements. Details are shared with each cohort, as appropriate.

Who can participate?

Continuing UCSC undergraduates, community college students, and college graduates with academic or professional training in science, mathematics, or engineering are welcome to apply and may be asked to interview prior to acceptance. Undergraduate participants must be in good academic standing, making progress in science, math, technology, or engineering coursework.
