Academic Programs
All students pursuing an undergraduate major in science, mathematics, or engineering (STEM) are welcome to apply to participate in the introductory Cal Teach course (CaT1, EDUC 50B or 50C) in any undergraduate year. Also, college graduates with academic or professional training in science, mathematics, or engineering may enroll through UCSC Extension.
The Cal Teach sequence of courses and associated internships are designed to help STEM majors to explore math and science teaching careers. For those who become serious about pursuing teaching, the Cal Teach sequence of courses is integrated into undergraduate major and minor options for future science and math teachers outlined below.
Cal Teach 1 (CaT1), Cal Teach 2 (CaT2), and Cal Teach 3 (CaT3) are required courses in the following majors and minor:
- Math Education Major (CaT1 and CaT2 only)
- Subject Matter Program CSET waived
- Science Education Major
- Six possible pathways for this major: Physics/Chemistry, Physics/Biology, Physics/Earth Science, Chemistry/Biology, Chemistry/Earth Science, and Biology/Earth Sciences
- STEM Education Minor
