Mark Bruce Fellowship for Math and Science Teachers

ATTENTION 2018-19 UCSC MA/credential program applicants: We will not be able to award Bruce Fellowships for 2018-19. We hope the Bruce Fellowships will be awarded in future years.

With a generous gift, Stephen (Cowell, ’79) and Mona Bruce honor Stephen’s late brother, Mark Bruce. The fellowships was established to encourage and promote science and math teachers, especially from UCSC.

Fellowship Amount

Up to 5 awards of $2,000-$12,000 each will be offered to students accepted into the incoming M.A./credential class. Awards are distributed to offset tuition costs in fall, winter, spring, and second summer quarters of the M.A./credential program. The fellowship is awarded based on academic merit, potential as a secondary teacher, and financial need.

Eligibility

Applicants must be UCSC graduates who have completed at least one Cal Teach internship and are planning to pursue the M.A./teaching credential at UCSC.

Application Process

A committee representing UCSC’s Cal Teach program, the Education Department, and the Physical and Biological Sciences Division selects the fellowship recipients. An interview with the partner school districts is required.

Who are the Bruce Fellows?

Since 2007, the Mark Bruce Fellowship has provided scholarships to outstanding UCSC Cal Teach participants who have enrolled in UCSC’s MA/credential program Now, Mark Bruce Fellows are teaching math or science in central California and beyond.
